A brief thought on Virtues, from the book "Elements of moral philosophy"

I think in the latter half of pg. 68 Aristotle states "But it is in the field of actions and feelings that virtue operates; and in them excess and deficiency are feelings whereas the mean is praised and recognized as a success: and these are both marks of virtue. Virtue, then , is a mean condition inasmuch as it aims at hitting the mean." When I think if the word mean in this case I think of the word "balance". I feel like he is saying virtue is in the middle of the balance between feelings and actions, both being equal in a mean condition- balanced.

A virtue is a commendable trait of character manifested in habitual action. (pg.159) I believe that virtue is displayed in character, through who we are and the actions we display. We look for virtues in others that are similar to our own in many ways. I believe thats how strong friendships and relationships are formed. We are creatures of habit. On that I don't believe that vices are necessarily a reflection of ones character. I do believe that on the "virtues and vices'" this is where we sort out how to avoid or choose to be around. (pg.159) I agree with this passage. Last, I think that our habits can be re-formed in the practice of good morals (virtues) in every way possible. We can form new pathways in our minds by doing so. (hows that for a psychological dance?)
